PITCH PERFECT 01

PITCH PERFECT

HOUSE / AGIOS KONSTANTINOS
COMPLETED 2019

MIKE KRAOUNAKIS

KOSTAS PALIOGIANNIS

In the area of Arkitsa, on a seaside plot with North orientation, we were assigned to redesign an existing building and transform it into a modern holiday house for a family of four and their friends.

Working within an intensely narrow layout, our primary goal was the functional unification of the building’s all three levels using a central staircase that would play a primary role in the whole design. The second important goal was to give the new building as much as sea-view possible through large windows and sliding doors and finally, to modify its form to such an extent that it acquires dynamism and a modern character. Our most important intervention in this direction was the conversion of the double-pitched roof into a single-pitched one, an element which required complex construction methods.

The entrance to the house is from the South into the middle level while the lowest level was strategically chosen – due to its contact with the outdoor space – as the “heart” of the house, as in this space the owners would spend most of their time.

The white colour of the thermal facade’s plaster is combined with the aluminium frames’ silver coloured anodizing in a game of forms under the intense light and shadows of the Greek sun.
